KENK
Animated Film
Development and direction of the upcoming animated film based on the successful 2010 graphic novel KENK: A Graphic Portrait chronicling the life of Igor Kenk, the man dubbed the world’s most prolific bicycle thief by The New York Times and The Guardian. Written by Richard Poplak and designed by Nick Marinkovich, the novel was based on verbatim transcripts of footage gathered by producer Alex Jansen and videographer Jason Gilmore, who recorded Kenk’s daily life, exploits and philosophical ramblings in the year leading up to his 2008 arrest. The film aims to bring to life Kenk’s story, vivid personality and the remarkable, shocking turn of events unforeseen even by his documenters. The original footage will be used as the basis for an edgy, recycled style of animation that will not only mirror the novel but will be reflective of Kenk’s own disheveled appearance and flawed yet compelling personality.
Scheduled for completion May 2011.
